At the MITA Board of Directors meeting in July, much was revealed and discussed regarding the fate of our industry as we approach the October 1 deadline for the State budget and the potential for funding infrastructure.
First, a rally is scheduled for September 3rd at the Capitol. This event could be one of the levers that puts our issue over the top. MITA needs thousands of people, not hundreds. If we have a poor showing, it will send the wrong message to the legislature. Failure is not an option. Plan on participating. MITA will soon have a registration portal, allowing us to monitor projected attendance. MITA strongly encourages the following: have your employees bring their families because it is a family issue, and pay your employees for the day. We understand that this will impact many job sites, but not securing funding will impact many more far into the future.
What can you do today? The Michigan Senate is our current problem. As mentioned at the board meeting, we have two legs of the stool. The House has passed a $3.1 billion funding bill, but the Senate has yet to take action. Our Governor has publicly stated that she will not sign a budget that doesn’t include road funding. So all of our attention is currently focused on the Senate. We’ve updated our contact your legislators messaging to be a plea from your employees.
The goal is to pack every Senator’s inbox with the email. It does not matter that it is the same message from multiple people or multiple times; it matters that they get bombarded with emails from the families they are elected to represent.
The message is simple: Save our JOBS, Fund our ROADS!
The MCA Board approved a much needed Training Center renovation to better serve our growing industry. Click below to learn more about the renovation and how your company can sponsor and be a part of this important initiative.

AWARD PROGRAM INFORMATION
Every Fall, the MCA conducts an annual "Excellence in Concrete" awards program which honors outstanding concrete projects that were constructed in the previous year. Concrete construction projects are rated annually to determine the best projects designed and constructed or restored during the past year.
The MCA Awards Program is intended to encourage high-quality workmanship in every concrete project. This program recognizes the contractor, project owner, and engineer (where appropriate).
The award plaques are presented at the annual workshop and conference typically held in February each year.
Sound, ethical behavior is the cornerstone of the engineering profession. Engineering requires honesty and impartiality toward the work we do to protect public health, safety, and welfare. This webinar is designed to meet the ethical training requirements of the Michigan PE while reminding us all of the importance in making clear ethical decisions during our daily activities.
Show your industry pride with officially branded gear from the Michigan Concrete Association. The MCA Merch Store offers high-quality apparel, accessories, and essentials designed for both the jobsite and everyday wear.
